What is the pros/cons of the self employment.  Do you agree or disagree.  Discuss in your team.  Give me 5 sentences.

The pros/cons of self employment:
  • You are your own boss, and can set your own hours and make the most possible profit, but you must motivate and keep yourself on schedule.
  • You can work from home, so no commute and you set your own dress code, but it may be hard to separate work from home and your home could distract you.
  • You must do all of the work that others would be doing if you were in a firm. Such as networking, blogging, creating contracts, customer interaction and more, plus designing.
  • It is a huge investment to be self employed in this industry, because the tools of the trade (computer, computer programs, typeface, artistic tools, etc) are super expensive, but then again all that you put in is an investment into your (hopefully) growing business to advance it.
We agree about many of the pros and cons of self employment in the graphic design industry. Many of these ideas also extend to other job fields where you can be freelance as well. For some people it is hard to be motivated, so being self employed is probably a bad idea, but in our team we always have three other people to keep us moving forward. We do not have the problem of working from home on designs, or making investments into our "firms" for this class, because most of us do not have the fancy programs and tools necessary to really be a design firm and we work in class, not at home.
